15 KEY LEARNINGS FROM THE ANZ QLD CONFERENCE
1 – “The 2 most Important days of your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why,” Knowing Your Life’s Purpose can help you get through the tough times in life – whether it’s challenges at work, home, career or self.
2 – Your Values are like a Magnet. The clearer you are about articulating Your Values, the stronger the power of your magnet to do 2 things. Attract Top Talent. Repel Team Member who you wouldn’t ‘enthusiastically re-hire’.
3 – Gratitude is a Game Changer – Giving our team the Gift of Gratitude – by means of a Thankyou Circle – at the end of every week will help you strike the balance between achievement and fulfilment. Critical in creating a high performing team.
4- Your Business Mission, Vision & Values are like a Fire. As a leader your primary role is to start that fire, let it spread to your team (by connecting their purpose / values to the companies) and never ever letting anyone put that flame out!
5 – SHOOT FOR THE STARS! When setting goals, set a few “BIG-HAIRY-AUDACIOUS- GOALS” or “Moonshot Goals”. Everything seems impossible until it’s done! Tink “Save $500,000 Tax Campaign that we knew we would fail at, but in the end hit $1.26M!
6 – FAMILY. Your Most Important Business. Almost everyone in the room resonated with my personal values and philosophies, especially this one around FAMILY. And remember the choice between the “Thankyou Water Bottle” & the “Mt Franklin Water Bottle”? Everyone chose the Thankyou bottle not because it was a better product, but because it better connected with your values. Could values be the difference between choosing your Bank over another? Could values be the difference between choosing one Accountant over another?
7 – Are you in a Relation-Ship or a Relation-Shit? Just like a weekly Thankyou Circle in your business team can help reinforce your core values, and help everyone leave the week with a true sense of fulfillment. Why couldn’t you incorporate more gratitude into your family and partners as a team? Our weekly family meetings include gratitude, celebrations & forgiveness. Highly recommend being a leader in your business & home.
8 – IMPACT. IMPACT. IMPACT. Remember impacting Raymond (my Dad) $36,000 in proactive Tax Savings? Was it about the money we saved of the impact that made? Even if they use those savings to ‘go on a bender’ hehe.
9 – THANKYOU CIRCLE – Acknowledging somebody for a job well done 1:1 (via text, email or face to face) vs in front of their peers can have a dramatically different impact. “Same Message, Different Environment, 2x the Impact.”
10 – The UN Global Goals. These are a to do list for humanity to make the world a better place. Think of them as a new way forward for humanity. The next big thing to align us as one. The world (and especially small businesses) are screaming out for someone to take leadership on making the Global Goals a reality. Will that leader be you?
11 – HAVE MORE, so you can LIVE MORE & GIVE MORE. We’re both in the business of helping our clients make Smart Financial Decisions.
12 – How much time are you spending with the people who have already achieved what you want to achieve in your life / business / relationship / career?
13 – Management vs Leadership – Management is like ‘pushing’ your team from behind – riding them to reach their stretch targets. Leadership is like ‘pulling’ your team from the front – demonstrating through your own actions a living & breathing example of Vision. Mission and Values in action. A true example to aspire towards. Are you pushing or pulling?
14 – If the “Values Magnet’ doesn’t work, you can always throw it at them! (That’s a joke, please don’t throw anything at your team).
15 – Finally, INSPIRE BEFORE YOU EXPIRE. Someday you will die. When that day comes will you be happy with how you spent your most valuable asset, your time?
